2021 - Stripe, the fintech company owned by the Collison brothers from Dromineer, is valued at $95bn, making it the most valuable privately-held tech company in the world.

On Sunday 14 March 2021, online payments technology provider Stripe announced that it had raised a new $600 million round of funding that valued the company at $95 billion.

Patrick and John Collison, the founders of Stripe, began their remarkable journey in Dromineer, far from the tech epicentres. Patrick’s talent emerged early when he won the BT Young Scientist of the Year in 2005 for creating a programming language. John followed with record-breaking Leaving Certificate results, reflecting the brothers’ academic brilliance.

Before Stripe, they launched Shuppa in Limerick, which evolved into Automatic, sold for $5 million in 2008. These ventures were stepping stones from Tipperary to global tech leadership. Today, Stripe, with headquarters in Dublin and Silicon Valley, is valued in the tens of billions, making the Collisons two of the world’s youngest self-made billionaires.
