Pilgrimage played a central role in the devotional lives of medieval people. Despite the reformation and penal laws, pilgrimage has endured in Ireland and today takes on many forms from tourism and spiritual based pilgrimages to the more traditional Catholic devotions at holy wells and churches. This talk will explore pilgrimage in County Tipperary from Medieval to modern time with a strong focus on holy wells within the county.
