In 2025 Tipperary Museum celebrates its 25th anniversary in its current location. However, Clonmel has had a Museum in some shape or form since the 1940’s. In the 1980’s the Museum came under the direction of the Local Authority. Today there is just 12 Local Authority Museums in Ireland with a broad geographical spread. This number does not take into consideration the many more community and voluntary run Museums as well as the larger national institutions across the country.

In these times of rapid social change should Museums have higher prominence, more funding and organisational leadership? Has the role of the Museum changed since Tipperary Museum first opened its doors in Mick Delahunty Square 25 years ago?

These are just some of the issues that will be discussed in a History Ireland Hedge School podcast on Saturday 17th May at 2pm in Tipperary Museum, Clonmel.
